Cycling Route 1291, Switzerland: One Woman’s Ebike Adventure into the Alps (and Herself) Before setting off on Switzerland’s Route 1291, I found myself endlessly Googling the kinds of questions only nervous, practical, slightly over-prepared people tend to ask. Now that I've lived to tell the tale, I’m hoping to answer a few of those elusive questions for future riders like me—active but not adrenaline junkies, a little afraid of heights, and wondering if seven days on a bike might be one too many. FYI, this route is a 235 mile circuit which starts and ends in Lucerne. The route takes you to Furka and Grimsel passes and then back around through beautiful bike paths and country roads. Let’s start with the questions that haunted me pre-trip: Did I train enough? How long does the battery really last when you’re chugging up Alpine passes?
